Jerry Alan West (May 28, 1938 – June 12, 2024), an American basketball legend, passed away at the age of 86.
Known as "Mr. Clutch," West was a 12-time NBA All-Star and played professionally for the Los Angeles Lakers from 1960 to 1974. He was a member of the NBA's 50th and 75th anniversary teams and was widely regarded as one of the league's most iconic players.
West played a pivotal role in the Lakers' success, helping them win the NBA championship in 1972. He was a versatile and dynamic guard who was known for his clutch shooting, slick ball-handling, and tenacious defense.
After retiring as a player, West transitioned into an executive role. He served as the Lakers' general manager and later as president of basketball operations for many years, shaping the team's success for decades.
Jerry West was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame three times: as a player in 1980, as a contributor in 2024, and as a member of the 1960 Olympic basketball team.
